30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee: Honest or Deceptive?
E-commerce is changing rapidly, and so is marketing puffery.
As a business owner, I confess that in our early years, I sometimes used inflated language to attract business. However, looking at the wave of emerging brands lately, I felt disappointed in that past approach. As a small, family-run business, you try your hardest to keep up, make sales, support your family, and continue a legacy. My heart was always in the right place, but sometimes that isn’t enough.
Because of this, you will notice a night-and-day difference in the tone of the language used on our website today. When it comes to prayer requests and simply being there for you—even if you don’t shop with us and are a total stranger—we will happily take the time to listen and pray because we truly care. Our platform is built on the deepest level of moral, Christian-based empathy. Yet, when it comes to our disclaimers, terms, and conditions, we choose to be highly direct and straightforward. We must be that way. Like the Bible says, "the path to righteousness is narrow," and the same applies to abiding by regulations and ensuring consumer safety.
We do not want to hide anything, not even the tiniest detail that could be vital to your shopping experience. We aren’t going to make you search high and low for tiny hidden text. It is right there, bold and centered, because I think we have all had enough of massive claims backed by hidden small print.
When it comes to our refund policy, I want to be entirely transparent about why we enforce our rules. Because we have cared so deeply for our clients, we have unfortunately encountered some incredibly underhanded behavior over the years.
For example, years ago, before we introduced our current all-sales-final policy, we had a client who would shop around our various independent retailers and buy bulk amounts of the same product. All of a sudden, these retailers began asking me to process a massive return for her. Blindly trusting our retailers, I accepted the return, only to receive over 49 jars combined that were completely emptied. I mean, these jars were washed so clean they looked like they came directly from the packaging manufacturer. Upon investigating, we discovered it was the exact same individual. She then wrote to me directly, asking to purchase an additional 29 jars, demanding they be replaced if she wasn't happy—not knowing I was already fully aware of the fraud.
Unfortunately, this was a problem we encountered a lot: individuals using an entire product down to the last drop and then demanding a full, complimentary replacement or refund. We had to enforce a very strict policy because this pattern was financially devastating to a small family business. We understand that when you first read our return policy, it can feel strict and overly direct, and we truly apologize if it comes across that way. We never want to give the impression that we don’t care or that a profit margin matters more to us. That is truly not the case. Our community is the most important thing to us.
We often have long-time clients whose family members start their own skincare brands. They temporarily leave to support their family, but they eventually always come back to us. Even during those times when they aren't purchasing, we stay in touch and maintain a genuine, one-on-one relationship. Sometimes clients call me simply because they need someone to talk to, and I do not care if I have to stop working for two hours if it means my client has a safe place to land. That is why, instead of using a cold corporate 1-800 number, my personal cell phone is our office line. Our customers can text me directly anytime. You will never have to face corporate barriers with us.
To completely balance out our strict return policy, we decided that sending free samples with free shipping was the most honest solution. It gives our clients true peace of mind about a future purchase without any financial risk or stress.
We have firmly chosen the road of blatant honesty. That is why we refuse to hide behind sneaky headlines like "100% Satisfaction Guarantee." Many emerging brands proudly display that badge, and customers eagerly make a purchase feeling confident. What they don't realize is that hidden deep in the footer of the site lies the bare-bones shipping terms and refund policies, which typically state the following:
A refund is applied to the item alone, never the original shipping charges.
The customer is contractually responsible to pay for the return shipping (which often costs more than the item itself).
All the hidden text regarding undelivered or lost parcels is just as strict as ours, just fluffed up to seem friendly on paper.
We also see brands using bold cosmetic claims, completely dismissing genuine customer sensitivities, and gaslighting people in their review sections. None of that is okay.
This is the difference: we are direct and upfront on paper, but fully sympathetic and willing to listen to anything our clients want to share with us. With us, you get blunt honesty wrapped in tender care. We choose that every single time over friendly marketing text that hides uncaring claws.
Please know this, because I truly believe it: you are more than a marketing pitch, and you are far more than just an order number. You matter, your peace of mind matters, and your right to transparency and honesty is undeniable.
I truly hope this explains our position.
Sincerely,
A.
